Russell Alac Ransom was born in Pope County,
AR. He grew up a farm boy, and moved to Texas
by 1860, when he had a son by his first wife, M.
Priutt. They separated, and Russell wed Margaret
in 1869. He was a farmer, a Texan, and may have
fought in the Civil War. At 71, he suffered a
stroke and died; he is buried in Bethel, Texas.
