John Sprott Stewart was born in Musquodoboit,
NS, the grandson of a Scottish colonist. His
mother's ancestors, the Putnums, were involved
on both sides of the Salem witch trials. John and
Sarah farmed in Upper Musquodoboit; he was a
merchant, postmaster and justice of the peace,
attaining the title of Esquire before dying at 80.
